NATIVARegen™- Shaniko x Draper A unique regenerative program in the U.S.

The NATIVARegen™- Shaniko Program is the first third-party certified, regenerative wool program in the U.S.

With a double NATIVA™ + Textile Exchange Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certification, the program is 100% transparent. Raising the bar for sustainable wool sourcing in the U.S., it builds on holistic farming practices that promote healthy ecosystems and preserve biodiversity for the current generations, and those to come.

Shaniko Wool Company, NATIVA™ local partner, consists of ten farms across five U.S. states, and was certified to the Responsible Wool Standard in 2018. Although historically, Shaniko’s Founder, Jeanne Carver, has been championing regenerative practices since the 1990’s when her late husband developed the ‘Conservation Management Plan’ for their Oregon family farm.

The NATIVA™ Regenerative Agriculture Program is a robust system with a triple impact, one based on scientific research and backed by data. It protects the land by improving its soil quality, safeguards the animals by ensuring their humane care and overall health, and supports farmers and local communities by improving their livelihoods. These multidisciplinary efforts also result in greater water quality and increased CO2 capturing levels.

In addition, the program features its very own combing mill, (Chargeurs Wool USA is the only wool combing mill in the United States), which allows U.S partners to further embody the low-carbon benefits associated with local production.

Draper embraces U.S. regenerative wool.

Draper Knitting Company, originally Draper Brothers Company, is one of the oldest textile mills in the United States. It has operated in Canton, MA continuously since 1856 and remains family owned. The sixth generation currently oversees the 120,000 square foot facility, while the mill remains unique with 3 fabric formations under one roof: conventional circular knitting, high pile sliver knitting and stitch bonded nonwovens.

Using a wide, unlimited variety of fibers and blends allows for knitting products for safety, fashion, and industrial applications. With their on-site dyehouse and full finishing department they produce rolled goods ready to be shipped to cut and sew.

In response to calls from small designers demanding high quality woolen knits in small quantities, Draper introduced “The Wool Bar™”, a line of wool fabrics that are in stock or have low minimums (1 yard in natural). Now exclusively made with 100% NATIVARegen™- Shaniko wool, the only 100% U.S. grown and processed wool with multiple sustainable certifications. The formal collection boasts 5 conventional knit constructions in multiple weights as well as 5 high pile knit densities finished in customizable pile heights. The high pile styles are backed with Repreve®, a recycled polyester for strength and stability. Customizations of these fabrics are endless and offered with larger minimums.

The line is 100% sourced, processed and knit in the United States, closing the loop on a local, high-performing product A unique regenerative program in the U.S.
